Why have your birth photographed?

Whether first time parents or with babies already at home you know birth is sacred and very special time in your life. When I say “I am a birth photographer” people usually give me a sour face (and that is true!) but once seeing the photos full of raw emotions, first skin on skin and the the moment mumma meets her baby, the whole perception changes.

I wish I had my birth documented, after 3 emergency c-sections I was half unconscious when meeting my babies and there are barely any phone photos since my hubby had to look after the newborns. I found that people tell story of birth that is not necessarily the truth but eventually becomes the reality as it is repeated… I’ll be there for you to capture it all - so whether it goes according to the plan and your birth is a smooth sailing or your experience is not what you wished for I want to show you the pivotal moments in life and remind you of the power within you during that time.

Let me capture the seconds in your life that will never be repeated again.

What is Fresh 48?

Fresh 48 is a session photographed within first 2 days of baby’s life. Birth photography is not for everyone so Fresh 48 is a chance to capture the first hours of baby’s life, first cuddles or latching. Siblings or other family members are welcome! This session is done either in a comfort of your home or in hospital.

Do you photograph the graphic stuff?

I don’t unless you want me to! We will meet before your due date for cuppa and chat and go through all these details together. You may decide you want it “all” or the blurry moments of emotions only, or you might change your mind on the day! Whatever it is, I’ll be there for you.

Sharing on social media

Sample of images that would be suitable for sharing will be send to you for approval. Im respectful of your privacy and although I’d love to share the images of birth and show the world the beauty in it, I understand if you decided not to share. Your comfort is everything to me!

How long are you on call before birth and how long do you stay after?

Officially I’ll be on call from 38th week of your pregnancy. However, since birth is unpredictable and there is a possibility you might go into labour earlier, I’ll do whatever it takes to attend your birth. My phone is on me 100% of time, I dont travel far and have babysitters on standby. We will get in touch during the early stages of your labour and I’ll head to the hospital simultaneously with you. I’ll explain more about that process during our free consultation.
I stay 1-2 hours after your baby is born to capture all the magic of skin on skin, first cuddles and all the tiny details. Fresh 48 session will be charged from 3rd hour post birth.

What if you cant make it?

I am lucky enough to have trusted network of other birth photographers that are aware of your due date and we would back each other up in emergencies. They provide me with RAW files and I’ll edit the birth in my style. All the agreements and durations of stay are as planned. I am proud to say I have made it to all my births so far as it’s my first and foremost desire to serve you!

Why is birth photography different to any other genres

Birth photography is like no other. We are challenged in difficult lighting situations, from dark rooms with one of two candlelights to bright lighting of the theatre. We need to understand the stages of labour, when to simply stop shooting and observe and when to never leave the room. Photographers with no birth experience could cause harm to the environment that mother labours in, not only because of the presence but also the energy that they bring in. I experienced it on my own during my first births where I could literally stop mother’s contraction because of my excitement and the energy I was bringing into the conversation. To be able to be on the same “frequency” and me bringing positive vibes into the room it takes practice and experience.
